Based on the principle that the density in liquid changes with temperature and thus buoyancy on the ball. The temperature is displayed using small aluminum seals suspended in the seven small balls. The difference in the weight of the balls is less than 2/1000 , providing an accuracy of 1 °C. As the temperature rises, the balls slowly sink; as the temperature falls, the balls rise. The temperature is read on the seal on the lower of the upper floating balls.
